Interview with a false convert

From The Informed Evangelist

Here is a video that we shot at the Dallas, TX gay pride parade with a guy named Scottie. Scottie has a typical evangelical background, as do many in the gay community in Dallas\Fort Worth. It might seem surprising to some that a homosexual would claim to be a Christian. In the pride parades in the Bible belt, it is not uncommon for churches to not only participate in the parade, but in the case of Fort Worth, the church actually sponsored it.

Why should we evangelicals be surprised that homosexuals easily claim Christianity as their own? Our seeker sensitive and Emergent churches have so watered down the Gospel that anyone who names the Name of Christ is embraced as a Christian. The Lord Jesus does not do the same thing (Matthew 7:21-23). As a result, the homosexual community wraps itself in the banner of Christ, freely printing His Name on their t-shirts, banners and promotional stickers. They have embraced the typically evangelical view of Jesus, but have they embraced the true Jesus, or another one? The Scripture is clear that they must be embracing a "Jesus" of their own making and thus violating the second commandment.

Behold, the fruit of the modern Gospel.

Right on Steve.......!

When I'm witnessing to homosexuals, I never bring up homosexuality. I don't have to; the Commandments do the job.

That being said, if a person is still diving headlong into a sin and has no problem with that sin and considers it just a 'lifestyle', then we don't have to judge their salvation; the Bible does it for us.

If I said I was saved and continued to worship my little carved idol...am I saved?

If I said I was saved and continued to commit adultery...am I saved?

If I said I was saved and continued to blaspheme God's name...am I saved?

If I say I'm saved but do not sell everything I own and give it to the poor...am I saved? (ref.to Luke 14:33)

"Whether or not the person truly feels sorry for their sin and is repentant is not for us to know."

Steve you are generally right here, but repentance is a change of mind and a change of heart - if someone is living in sin - living a life style that is contrary to God's Word, then we can see that repentance has not taken place.

What I liked about the interviewer, is that with his tone and with his careful wording he was clearly not being in any way judgemental - but was clearly showing love.

I hate it when we do not show love in our witness - and I have fallen into this trap a time or two. When we do this we are clearly a clanging gong and a clashing symbol.

Can you categorically say that he is not saved? No, I thought not. Let's leave analysis of someone's spiritual status to God alone.

Q o I,

"...- if someone is living in sin - living a life style that is contrary to God's Word, then we can see that repentance has not taken place."

We are all living in sin. We all do things that are against God's law...every day and over and over again.

We do not love our enemies. We do not give up all that we have. We do not invite the poor and destitute to our homes for dinner. (once in a blue moon doesn't cut it).
We do not spend our spare time visiting the prisoners and the elderly in the homes for the sick and aged (once in a blur moon doesn't cut it).

We continue to have the same selfish thoughts and sinful thoughts and or fantasies.

Are we sorry about it? Maybe. All the time? Maybe...maybe not.

The point is that Christ knows our hearts and hHe will be our Judge and that maybe, just maybe, we ought not be too quick in our judgment of others.

Preach the law, preach the gospel, point out where a Brother is falling down...but do not be so quick to judge his eternal destiny. Jesus tells us explictly not to do that.

My 2 cents.

Thanks Q. of I.!
