Earth's broken things

"This man welcomes sinners--and eats with them!" Luke 15:2

"I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you!" Matthew 21:31

Christ is building His kingdom with earth's broken things.

Men want only the strong, the successful, the victorious, the unbroken--in building their kingdoms. But God is the God of the broken, the unsuccessful, of those who have failed. Heaven is filling with earth's broken lives, and there is no 'bruised reed' which Christ cannot take and restore to glorious blessedness and beauty. He can take the life crushed by pain or sorrow--and make it into a harp whose music shall be all praise. He can lift earth's saddest failure--up to heaven's glory!

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:1-3)

On this date, October 29th 1994, God saved me.

Thank you Lord.

I will be glad and rejoice in You;I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. (Psalm 9:2)

That I may tell of all Your praiseIn the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in Your salvation. (Psalm 9:14)

I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. (Psalm 22:22)

I will praise You forever,Because You have done it;And in the presence of Your saints I will wait on Your name, for it is good. (Psalm 52:9)

But I will hope continually,And will praise You yet more and more. (Psalm 71:14)

I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,And I will glorify Your name forevermore. (Psalm 86:12)

I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth;Yes, I will praise Him among the multitude. (Psalm 109:30)

I will praise You,For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. (Psalm 118:21)

You are my God, and I will praise You;You are my God, I will exalt You. (Pslam 118:28)

For God so loved...

No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(John 3:13-18)

Rome Braves Stadium

This past weekend my softball team had a unique opportunity to partcipate in the first annual Softball Slam held at the Rome Braves Stadium. The Rome Braves are a single A team for the Atlanta Braves.

I haven't got the team picture sent to me yet, but here are some pictures my wife took of the Dawg in action.

The tournament was a double elimination tournament and we were doubly eliminated.

Even though we went two and out, we had a great time playing on a major league type field and now I can scratch one more line off my bucket list!

Climate chief Lord Stern: give up meat to save the planet

From the TIMESONLINE -

People will need to turn vegetarian if the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming.

In an interview with The Times, Lord Stern of Brentford said: “Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.”

Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas.

This sounds to me like we should be eating more cows and pigs!

"I'll give you my pork chop when you take it from my cold dead hands!"

Persecution in Pakistan

NEWS ALERT: Pakistani Christians Fear More Deadly Violence
Posted on: 2009-10-15 13:49:55
By Jawad Mazhar, Worthy News Special Correspondent reporting from Pakistan

SARGODHA, PAKISTAN (Worthy News)-- Christians in Pakistan's Punjab province feared more violence Thursday, October 15, after authorities released on bail six suspected Muslim militants accused of anti-Christian clashes that killed nearly a dozen people, while acquitting an alleged Muslim rapist of a Christian girl.

The news emerged as Pakistani security forces battled suspected Muslim militants who killed dozens of people Thursday, October 15, in attacks against police.

The district and sessions court of Toba Tek Singh released Muhammad Adnan, Muhammad Ammar, Muhammad Safdar, Ali Raza, Javed-ur-Rehman and Amer Hayyat after each of them posted bail in the amount of 50,000 Pakistani Rupee($600), trial observers said.

They were allegedly involved of inciting and carrying out attacks against Christians in Gojra where 11 Christians were killed and over 40 Christian homes were burned down.

Please keep our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world in your prayers.

“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John 15:18-19

Dose of Ravenhill

There is an eternity in front of us!

There is a world that now is in more rebellion than ever! "As in the days of Noah" they rebelled against God. For 100 years Noah never preached a new message, he preached repentance, he preached righteousness.

Alexander White used to say, "You can preach divine healing, you can preach prophecy, you can preach anything, but you can't preach righteousness; people won't have it."

Atheist ads to adorn New York subway stations

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Some New Yorkers may want to reconsider exclaiming "Thank God" when arriving at their destination subway station beginning next Monday.

Or at least that's what a coalition of eight atheist organizations are hoping, having purchased a month-long campaign that will place their posters in a dozen busy subway stations throughout Manhattan.

The advertisements ask the question, written simply over an image of a blue sky with wispy white clouds: "A million New Yorkers are good without God. Are you?"

On October 26, a dozen bustling New York City subway stations will be adorned with the ads as "part of a coordinated multi-organizational advertising campaign designed to raise awareness about people who don't believe in a god", according to a statement from the group, the Big Apple Coalition of Reason.

----------------------------------------------------------

Well I can tell you right off; I'm not good without God.

I'm not even good with God.

In fact, I'm not good at all.

Jesus said in Matthew chapter 19 verse 17, "...no one is good but One, that is, God."

Only God is good.

He is perfect.

I am not.

His standard of goodness is so high we could never attain it. But there is a way to be forgiven of breaking His law; His Ten Commandments.

No, I'm not talking about asking Jesus into your heart. I'm not asking you to 'make' Jesus your Lord and Savior. I not telling you you need to 'accept' Jesus. I'm not telling you that you have a 'God shaped hole' in your heart that only Jesus can fill.

I'm talking about repentance and faith in Christ.

The Bible says we must repent (Acts 2:38) and put our trust in Christ (Acts 16:31).

One day you will die.

You will stand before the Creator whom you have mocked or denied. He will judge you according to the perfect, moral standard of His Law. If He finds you guilty of so much as one lie, or one theft, or one greedy desire, or one selfish act, or one lustful look, or one hateful thought, or one blasphemous utterance; He will find you guilty of breaking His Law. The sentence you will receive will be just and good: eternity in Hell.

2000 years ago God sent His Son, Jesus, who lived a perfect and sinless life, to be a sacrifice for you and me. Jesus was the propitiation, the satisfaction if you will, for our sins. Jesus died on a cross and the wrath of God was unleashed upon Him.

Jesus died a brutal, shameful, and humiliating death.

Three days later Jesus defeated death and rose from the dead and ascended to be seated at the right hand of the Father.

If you Repent of your sins and Trust in Jesus as your Savior you will not see the wrath of God on Judgment Day.

You are free from the Judgment only if you repent and trust because Jesus' sacrifice delivered you from the law of sin and death. You will have eternal life with God! God will forgive you of your sin and you will become born again. God will place new desires in your heart.

You will become a new creation in Christ.

All this will happen not because God made you into a good person, but because He has forgiven you and declared you not guilty.

50 days to save the world!

According to Gordon Brown, we only have 50 days to save the planet from global warming!!

So it looks like we only have until December 6th to ram through global legislation or the world will blow a gasket and overheat.

I wonder how many pages a bill (the health care bill has over 1,500) like that would have? How many oxygen producing trees will be needed to print up hundreds of bills for all the leaders of the world to read?

On a side note.......here in North Georgia we had frost warnings a full month ahead of 'normal' seasonal frosts.

Quote of the day

Speak of evolution,— here it is,— “When lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Darkness never begets light, filth never creates purity, hell never yields heaven, and depravity never produces grace.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

This is the most important question that anyone could ever ask.

The simple fact is that everyone will die one day. None of us know how much time we have left on this earth. Regardless if you believe in heaven or hell, on judgment day you will stand before a righteous and holy God that will stand in judgment of you. You may not agree with this or even believe it but please read on to get the full explanation.

In the beginning God created a perfect world. There was no death or sickness because there was no sin in His perfect creation. God created man and woman to inhabit the earth, Garden of Eden, and gave them dominion over all things. When Adam and Eve were in the garden they walked and talked with God. They were in perfect relationship with Him. However, they disobeyed God (sinned) and they were cast out of the garden and their penalty was death. As a result of their sin all humanity would never be in perfect relationship with God. This was not just a blame it all on Adam and Eve event...we have sinned as well. The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23). You may think...I don't feel like I have sinned. Let me explain further. God brought forth Ten Commandments that were moral laws and humankind was told to live within these laws. The Ten Commandments are:

1. You shall have no other God before me.

2. You shall not bow down to any graven image.

3. You shall not take the Lord's name in vain.

4. Remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.

5. Honor your mother and father.

6. You shall not kill.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

9. You shall not lie.

10. You shall not covet.

Here is the news....we have broken all of these commandments. You may say, "I have never killed anyone or committed adultery". Jesus said that if you have hated your brother then you have committed murder in your heart. He also said that if you look upon a woman to lust after her then you are guilty of committing adultery in your heart. Jesus clarified the law by making it a matter of the conscience rather than only of deed.

The simple fact is that if you have ever lied, God sees you as a liar. If you have ever stolen anything (regardless of value) God sees you as a thief. If you have ever looked upon anyone in lust then God sees you as an adulterer. On Judgment Day you will be found guilty in the sight of a Righteous, Holy, and Just God and he is fair and just in sending you to hell.

You may think that you will be able to beg for forgiveness on that day. Let's apply what we know about justice to this idea. Suppose you are brought before a judge in a court of law and you are guilty of raping and murdering someone. The evidence against you is rock solid. Somehow you were caught on video tape committing the act and on top of that there is DNA evidence to substantiate the charge. You are guilty. What if you beg the judge for forgiveness? Maybe you could say, "Judge I know I raped and murdered that person but that was a long time ago. Since then I have become a very good person and I donate time and money to charitable causes". Will the judge let you go? No, he will not let you go because he is a just judge and the law must be satisfied. You do the crime, you serve the time. God, the Holy Creator of the universe is infinitely more Just and fair than an earthly judge. Because He is fair and just He must punish sin. Not only must He...He will. God's punishment is Hell.

Right now you may be thinking.....I have no hope. Let me give you the Good News.

If youRepent of your sins and Trust in Jesus as your Savior you will not see the wrath of God on Judgment Day. You are free from the Judgment only if you repent and trust because Jesus' sacrifice delivered you from the law of sin and death. You will have eternal life with God! God will forgive you of your sin and you will become born again. God will place new desires in your heart. You will become a new creation in Christ.

God sacrificed His Son in order to restore the relationship that mankind destroyed with God. You hear all sorts of talk today about God's "purpose" for your life......I have just told you God's purpose and wonderful plan for your life. Repent and trust in Jesus today. You do not know how much time you have left on this earth. The latest statistics report that 150,000 people die every day. What if today is your last day?

If you are not sure exactly how to repent and trust read Psalm 51 and use that as your model. You can also refer to the "Repentance" tab on the left side of this page for more information.

Thanks to Repent and Trust

Pterodactyl fossil fills gaps in evolutionary tale

(CNN) -- Scientists say a very rare find of some 20 fossilized pterodactyls has produced the first clear evidence of a controversial theory of evolution.

The fossils were found in north-east China earlier this year, embedded in rock dating back 160 million years, and have been called "Darwinopterus" after the renowned naturalist Charles Darwin.

The creature's discovery has astounded scientists because their age puts them within two recognized groups of pterodactyls -- primitive long-tailed forms and advanced short-tail forms -- and they display characteristics of both.

The combination of features indicates that the primitive pterodactyls evolved relatively quickly, and that certain groups of features changed at the same time.

The researchers say more study is needed to substantiate the idea of that evolution could occur relatively quickly, and that whole parts of a plant or animal's body could change at once.

---------------------------------------------------

Oh no!!

Here is the evidence needed to finally defeat all those crazy creationists!!

A missing link!!!

Wait, what?

Nope, false alarm.

Looks like we have yet another example of micro-evolution which is evident in many species today.

This is nothing more than a series of changes within species and not the great leap in evolution of one species into another species.

Sorry for the interruption and now back to our regular programming.

The Christian's interpreter

The Word of God is the Christian's rule--and the Spirit of God is the Christian's guide.

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness," 2 Timothy 3:16

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes--He will guide you into all truth." John 16:13

Most people walk by false rules:

1. Some walk by popular opinions.
2. Some walk by worldly customs.
3. Some walk by providence.
4. Some walk by conscience.
5. Some walk by their own reason.
6. Some walk by other men's examples.
7. Some walk by their own lusts.

But, oh! my dear friends, let me beseech you to walk by none of these false rules--but keep close to the Word and Spirit of God.

William Dyer

Hold me up!

Almighty Father,
Conscious of our own weakness, and trusting only in Your grace and power--we beseech You this day to increase and multiply Your mercy upon us.

We are going forth to tread on slippery ground--may You uphold us.

Our march is through a land of which Satan is the prince--may You protect us.

Snares at each turn await our steps--may You guide us.

We look around--and fear. We look up to You--and take courage. By Your grace alone can we stand. If Your grace should fail us--instantly we fall. Our earnest prayer is, "Hold me up--and I shall be safe!" Psalm 119:117

Peace Prize?

"Bestowing the Nobel Prize on the most rabid pro-abortion president in history is a direct slap in the face to past recipient Mother Theresa of Calcutta who said, in receiving her Nobel Peace Prize: 'the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing - direct murder by the mother herself.' 2009 Nobel Peace Prize goes to.......

Ok, yesterday I thought I had seen it all.

This morning I wake to find the Barack Hussein Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

Was the prize for his 2009 apology tour? Did they feel sorry for him that he lost the Olympics?

The odd thing that I find amazing is not that in less than nine months into his presidency he wins the prize, but the fact that two weeks after his presidency begun the nominee selection deadline was officially closed.

From the story:

The announcement Friday in Oslo, Norway, came as a surprise -- Obama had not been mentioned among front-runners -- and the roomful of reporters gasped when Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Nobel committee, announced Obama's name.

Jagland said the decision was unanimous and came with ease.

He rejected the notion that Obama had been recognized prematurely for his efforts and said the committee wanted to promote the president just it had Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990 in his efforts to open up the Soviet Union.
Don't Miss

Jagland said he hoped the prize would help Obama resolve the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So the prize was awarded based on some future event that may or may not happen??

Story goes on to say:

Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, last year's laureate, said it was clear the Nobel committee wanted to encourage Obama on the issues he has been discussing on the world stage.

"I see this as an important encouragement," Ahtisaari said.

The committee wanted to be "far more daring" than in recent times and make an impact on global politics, said Kristian Berg Harpviken, director of the International Peace Research Institute.

The committee has given out a prize based on encouraging a president to do something about peace rather than just talking about peace.

Sort of a carrot and stick deal...except they gave him the carrot first.

Saudis ask for aid if world cuts dependence on oil

BANGKOK — There are plenty of needy countries at the U.N. climate talks in Bangkok that make the case they need financial assistance to adapt to the impacts of global warming. Then there are the Saudis.

Saudi Arabia has led a quiet campaign during these and other negotiations — demanding behind closed doors that oil-producing nations get special financial assistance if a new climate pact calls for substantial reductions in the use of fossil fuels.

Rest of story here

---------------------------------------------------------

Now the Saudi's are asking for a bailout! You just thought you have seen and heard it all!

Clean joke of the day -

A young Marine officer was in a serious car accident, but the only visible permanent injury was to both of his ears, which were amputated. Since he wasn't physically impaired he remained in the Marine and eventually rose to the rank of General. He was, however very sensitive about his appearance. One day the General was interviewing three Marines for his personal aide. The first was an aviator, and it was a great interview. At the end of the interview the General asked him, "Do you notice anything different about me?"

The young officer answered," why yes, sir. I couldn't help but notice that you have no ears." The general got very angry at the lack of tact and threw him out.

The second interview was with a femaleLieutenant, and she was even better. The General asked her the same question, "Do you notice anything different about me?"

She replied, "Well, sir, you have no ears." The General threw her out also. The third interview was with a Marine Gunny. He was articulate, looked extremely sharp and seemed to know more than the two officers combined.

The General wanted this guy, and went ahead with the same question, "Do you notice anything different about me?"

To his surprise the Gunny said, "Yes sir; you wear contacts lenses."

The General was very impressed and thought, what an incredibly observant Gunny, and he didn't mention my ears. "And how do you know that I wear contacts?" The General asked.

The sharp-witted Gunny replied, "Well, sir, it's pretty hard to wear glasses without any ears."

Fruitless and content

The true worker is not to be blamed that as yet there are no fruits, but he is to be blamed if he is content always to be without fruits.

Charles Spurgeon

The only qualification for man to come to Jesus!

"It is not the healthy who need a doctor--but the sick!" Matthew 9:12

From the garden of Gethsemane--where the bleeding pores of the Savior sweat pardons; from the cross of Calvary--where the bleeding hands of Jesus drop mercy--the cry comes, "Look unto Me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth!" From Calvary's summit, where Jesus cries, "It is finished!" I hear a shout, "Look unto Me, and be saved!"

But there comes a vile cry from our soul, "No, look to yourself! Look to yourself!" Ah, look to yourself--and you will certainly be damned! As long as you look to yourself--there is no hope for you. It is not a consideration of what you are--but a consideration of what Christ is, that can save you. You must look away from yourself, and to Jesus!

Oh! there are many who quite misunderstand the gospel; they think that their good works qualify them to come to Christ; whereas SIN is the only qualification for man to come to Jesus!

"It is not the healthy who need a doctor--but the sick!" Matthew 9:12

What Did Jesus Do?

What Jesus loves, we love;
What Jesus hates, we hate;
What Jesus seeks, we seek;
What Jesus shuns, we shun.

This is true friendship when there is but one heart in two bodies, and when one heart in the twain produces with undivided strength one object.

C.H. Spurgeon
