In modern day evangelism, this precious doctrine [of regeneration] has been reduced to nothing more than a human decision to raise one’s hand, walk an aisle, or pray a “sinner’s prayer.” As a result, the majority of Americans believe that they’ve been “born again” (i.e., regenerated) even though their thoughts, words, and deeds are a continual contradiction to the nature and will of God.

HT - Defending. Contending
This is very true and it happens everywhere. I personally like invitations at the end of a service, but if someone is coming forward for salvation someone needs to talk to them and make sure they understand. Often times people think going up in front of the church or saying a prayer is part of salvation.
ReplyDeleteWasher is not relevant these days. Get with the times, Waynedawg!
ReplyDeleteJust kiddin'.
Whew - you had me there for a second Joe.
ReplyDeleteAll this "free will" "decision" theology stuff, does lead many astray.
ReplyDeleteIt is God who makes the decision for us. It is God's will to save sinners that is important. It is God's performance that means something. Our performance is (as the bible says) "filthy rags".
Instead of inviting people down the aisle...preachers ought concentrate on preaching God's law (to convict and condemn) and then the gospel (to forgive and bring new life).
The Word will do it's job just fine without any help from our will, our decision, or sincerity...thank you very much.
Awww...that's just old fashioned Lutheran theology extracted from holy scripture...how boring....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
